No serial numbers, makers mark on back of peghead. Scale length = 25 1/2 in. Head dia. = 13 in., 20 hooks Backstrap to 5th fret. Hutchins was a Boston-area banjo-maker in the late 1880-1890's. The front & back peghead veneers are cracked similar to some Gatcomb and Bay State banjos that I've seen. Came with a few scraps of thin wood in place of the head and missing most of the hardware. I put in a 1/4" square brass tone ring and made a 1/4" x 1/2" tension hoop. Right now I'm using strings #1-5 from a set of D'Addario Pro*Arte classical guitar strings (EJ48, hard tension) and I keep it tuned an octave below standard tunings.
