Tailpiece is a brass replica of a vintage J. E. Dallas tailpiece.  All shoes & hooks and and all but two nuts appear to be original.

CONVERSION:

Converted from a vintage (circa 1920) Dixie Brand tenor to 5-string by adding walnut molding (wings) to both sides of neck,  1/4" fretless walnut fingerboard on top of existing fingerboard, 1/4 in deep brass-floored frailing scoop just below octave.

This is a short-scale banjo, since it uses the original tenor neck.  Violin peg tuners, Nylgut "Minstrel" strings, Yellowstone head.

Original peghead star MOP inlay.  Peghead looks like Supertone.

I didn't brand the dowel with my logo, wrote #27 in pencil near metal tag, can easily be removed.

DIMENSIONS:

Head dia. = 10 3/4 in.,  20 hooks.

Now set up w/ scale length 197/8 in.

String span @ nut=11/4  in

String span @ heel = 1  5/8 in.

Bridge =  5/8 in. tall

SETUP:

*  action @ scoop  = 3/8 in.

*  action @ octave =  3/16 in.

FLAWS:

Normal scuffing due to age.

Had no tuners when I got it, but 1st through 4th string tuner holes were ragged on the back side.  I repaired & matched finish... not really noticeable unless you look up close.

ON THE PLUS SIDE:

Good sound, good playability, overall in nice shape.
