Banjos, etc.

5-string banjo, no makers mark, suspected made by Buckbee.

A very plain-looking, nice-sounding banjo.  No inlays on fingerboard or peghead.  It looks to me as though someone took this banjo apart and THOROUGHLY, MAYBE OBSESSIVELY polished the metal parts.  I suspect the pot was nickel-plated brass, but the nickel plate is gone.

The tuners in the slotted peghead are geared and, based upon the fit to the recesses in the peghead, I think that they're original.  They're VERY clean, and I didn't try to take away the little bit of tarnish that I put on by handling the banjo.

The 5th string tuner points down, not out from the neck.  Also geared, also appears to be original.  This is an awkward setup..... you need to take off the tuner to re-string the 5th string, and the tuner shaft & button get in the way a little bit when you play.  Only took me about 2 minutes to get used to it, and it's not a major obstacle.

Yellowstone head rests on the wood pot, no tone ring.  Nylgut Minstrel strings, has one of my brass & walnut repro tailpieces.
