Bottom rolled-over rim, skin head rests on wood rim. Nylgut Minstrel strings.
DIMENSIONS: Head dia. = 11" Scale length 25 5/8" String span @ nut = 15/16" String span @ heel = 1 1/2". Bridge = 5/8" 16 shoes & hooks SETUP: * action @ heel = 1/4". FLAWS: Normal scuffing for an old banjo. Pot metal is heavily tarnished and/or worn. In very rough shape when I got it. Heel had split and was poorly repaired, so I took it apart, re-glued, and pegged the repair on both sides of the heel. Many small, glued labels on fingerboard, which I mostly removed without scarring the fingerboard. Fingerboard @ heel was splintered, so I put in a brass plate. Big knot in the neck behind the 8th fret - ugly, but stable.n. ON THE PLUS SIDE: A good-sounding, simple vintage banjo. Set-up carefully and plays well. A good player for a modest price. NOTES: Uses geared, guitar-type tuners. The banjo stays in tune. Stamped "Tremont 36 1/2" behind peghead. Mugwumps says that Tremont is a Buckbee trade banjo name, circa 1890. The peghead decorations are interesting…. wonder if these went on at the factory….. don't think so. TUNE: I'm Going to Marry That Pretty Little Girl from the Sweet Brothers' recording.
